A chiropractic adjustment is a hands-on technique in which a chiropractor applies a controlled, quick force to a joint—usually in the spine—to help improve movement, reduce stiffness, and support normal joint function. During an adjustment, you may hear a popping or cracking sound caused by gas bubbles releasing within the joint fluid, similar to cracking your knuckles. Many people seek chiropractic adjustments for back pain, neck pain, headaches, sciatica, joint stiffness, and mobility issues, and often report improved range of motion and reduced tension afterward. For most healthy adults, chiropractic adjustments are generally considered safe when performed by a licensed chiropractor.
